Hope College Sailing
Sailing is a club sport at Hope College. For more information about the sailing club, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Hope Sailing Team sails on the waters of Lake Macatawa at Macatawa Bay Yacht Club.
Occasionally, Hope Sailing travels a short channel to access Lake Michigan to experience large lake sailing.
The sailing season is from late August to the end of October. Hope Sailing is one of the few clubs that travel to other schools such as Wisconsin-Madison, University Michigan and Western Michigan University to compete. There are, on average five to seven regattas per season, and that number changes from season to season.
Hope Sailing uses 420 boats in all competitions, but JY boats are also used periodically during practices.
Practices are held Mondays through Thursdays from 3-6 p.m. (weather permitting). Sailors will meet at The Anchor and carpool to Macatawa Bat Yacht Club.
Similar to other club sports, attending every practice isn't
required for every sailor, but
individuals and the team as a
whole definitely benefit from consistent attendance.
Hope Sailing will also consider attendance when it comes time to compete in regattas.
All supplies are provided; from the boats to the lifejackets, we've got you covered! Essentially, HopeSailing serves to provide a fun environment to introduce novice s to the sport ofsailing, and to also allow more experienced sailors to hone their racing skills.
