Flying Dutchmen Drop Two 5-4 Decisions To Anderson (Ind.)
Two late rallies sent the Hope College baseball team to two 5-4 losses to Anderson (Ind.) on Saturday in Winter Haven, Fla.
The Flying Dutchmen fell to 1-3 on the season. All four games have been decided by one run.
Hope dropped the first game 5-4 in eight innings after overcoming a 4-0 deficit to force extra innings. Anderson drove in the winning run with a walkoff, bases-loaded walk by relief pitcher Matt Glowacki of Goodrich (Goodrich HS).
First baseman Ben Pearson of Madison, Wis. (West HS), went 4-for-4 for Hope with a RBI single in the top of the seventh that tied the score at 1-1. Designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland (Holland Christian HS) had a two-run single for Flying Dutchmen in the top of the fifth.
In the nightcap, Anderson swiped the win with a two-run top of the seventh to overcome a 4-3 deficit.
Brower delivered RBIs for Hope on a first-inning groundout and a second-inning single. The Flying Dutchmen posted a three-run second to snap a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore Coty Franklin of Vermontville (Maple Valley HS) went the distance for Hope. He allowed eight hits, struck out two and walked one.
Hope returns to action on Monday, March 17, when it plays a single, nine-inning game against Allegheny (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
