A six-run sixth inning powered the Hope College baseball team to a 13-7 win against Roger Williams, R.I. on Friday in the Flying Dutchmen's first spring break game in Florida.
The Flying Dutchmen (3-0 overall) sent 12 batters to the plate to break a 5-5 tie.
Catcher Codey Houts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) and first baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) started the rally with RBI singles. The Flying Dutchmen added an unearned run after Brower's hit.
Third baseman Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) delivered a two-run single, while Houts closed the scoring with a bases-loaded walk.
Reliever Jake Spry of Waterford, Michigan (Lakeland) scattered three hits and two runs over 2 ⅔ innings for his first collegiate win.
Houts finished with a team-leading three RBI.
Rightfielder JP Batts went 3-for-4 with two RBI. The senior from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) cracked the Flying Dutchmen's first home run of the season with a two-run blast.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, March 18 with a doubleheader against Roger Williams at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg, Florida.
