The Hope College baseball team dropped the first two games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series against Calvin 5-2 and 16-4 on Friday in Grand Rapids.
The Flying Dutchmen (10-6 overall) fell to 3-3 in MIAA play. They host Calvin for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
In Game 1, Hope received three hits and two RBIs from second baseman Jordon Fairchild of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge). Seven Flying Dutchmen errors contributed to four unearned runs.
In Game 2, Hope could not overcome a nine-run, third-inning for the Knights that gave them an 11-1 lead.
First baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) had a RBI single for the Flying Dutchmen. Shortstop Drew Lunsford of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Homestead) had Hope's other RBI with a groundout.
Calvin (8-8 overall) improved its MIAA record to 4-2.
