Baseball Drops High-Scoring Doubleheader To Aquinas

Two big innings propelled the Hope College baseball team to two tough home losses to Aquinas College on Tuesday.

The Saints struck out seven runs in their final at-bat in the top of the seventh for an 8-6 win in Game 1 of the nonleague doubleheader.

Aquinas opened the first inning of Game 2 with 11 runs and went on to win 15-11.

Centerfielder Mason Opple of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 1.

Designated hitter Tanner Gilmore of Murrieta, California (Alta Loma) and leftfielder Nicholas Lepore of Clinton Township, Michigan (Warren De La Salle) each collected two hits and RBI.

In Game 2, shortstop Jared Blum of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) had a three-run homer for the Flying Dutchmen.

Rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) had two doubles and two RBIs. He is hitting a team-leading .446 on the season.

Hope returns to action on Friday, April 21 with a 2 p.m. Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader at Trine.
