Baseball Falls To Calvin In MIAA Tournament, Finishes With 24-18 Record

The season for the Hope College baseball team came to a close with an 18-2 loss to Calvin on Thursday in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament at Adrian College.

The Flying Dutchmen finish with a 24-18 overall record.

Hope scored both of its runs in the top of the first inning.

Senior rightfielder and All-MIAA First Team selection JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) started the scoring with a RBI single up the middle in the 1st inning.

Junior third baseman Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian) joined in on the fun with a RBI single of his own that scored Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian).

However, Hope's bats went silent and the offense was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Meanwhile, Calvin's offense was red hot all afternoon as the collected 26 hits which resulted in 18 runs. The Knights chased starter Nick Holt of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge) with one out in the bottom of the first en route to an eight-run rally.

Sophomore centerfielder Mason Opple of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) continued his hot hitting in the MIAA Tournament going 3 for 4.
