Men's Basketball Falls To Grand Valley State In Exhibition

Guard Jason Beckman scored a game-high 23 points in his DeVos Fieldhouse debut for the Hope College men's basketball team in an 84-72 exhibition loss to NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University on Monday.

The junior from Shelby, Michigan (Shelby) and the Flying Dutchmen helped raise money for the American Red Cross hurricane relief efforts in the game that does not count toward the overall standings.

All ticket proceeds from the 1,153 fans who watched the exhibition doubleheader at Hope College will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Junior forward Dennis Towns of Flint, Michigan (Powers Catholic) recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Flying Dutchmen.

In the first exhibition, NCAA Division II Davenport University defeated Calvin College 68-49.
