Men's Golf Makes Cut At NCAA Division III Championships, Tied For Eighth Place

The Hope College men's golf team shot up the standings and made the 36-hole cut at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Flying Dutchmen fired a second-round 299 to rise 10 spots to an eighth-place tie at the 42-team event.

The top 18 teams and five individuals from non-qualifying teams advanced to play the final 36 holes.

Hope is at 29-over-par after 36 holes along with LaGrange College and Methodist University. Huntingdon College (8-over) is the leader heading into Thursday's third round.

Junior Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS) carded an even-par 72 to lead the Flying Dutchmen. He is tied for 19th among individuals.

Hoeksema recorded three birdies, one double bogey and one bogey during his round.

Sophomore Josh Gibson of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) finished at 1-over after collecting six birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey. He is in ninth place.

Senior Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Central) and sophomore Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) both shot 77 to round out Hope's scoring.
