Josh Gibson Repeats As MIAA Season Medalist; Men's Golf Finishes Runner-Up

Hope College's Josh Gibson has repeated as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association season medalist.

The junior from Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS) claimed the award for the second time after averaging a league-low and school-record 71.6 strokes per round over 90 holes this fall.

The scheduled 108 holes of the MIAA season was shortened after rain washed out play on Saturday at Battle Creek Country Club.

Gibson, pictured at left, led the nationally ranked Flying Dutchmen to a second-place finish in the team standings with a total of 1,461 strokes. They placed eight strokes behind Calvin College.

Hope qualified for the MIAA's NCAA Division III Championship qualifier next spring. The Flying Dutchmen will host the first round of the 54-hole event. Calvin will host the remaining two events.

Gibson headlined an All-MIAA First Team that included teammate Daniel Settecerri, a sophomore from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Bloomfield Hills), pictured at right.

Settecerri came in fourth in the individual standings with an average of 73.0 in league play.

Three Hope golfers received All-MIAA Second Team honors: senior Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian), and juniors Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) and Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake).
