Men's Lacrosse Posts Second Shutout Of Season, Beats Calvin

The Hope College men's lacrosse team recorded its second shutout of the season and fourth all-time during a 13-0 win at Calvin on Saturday.

Goalies Nick Schanhals of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon HS) and Peter Reynolds of Holland, Michigan (Black River) combined to hold the Knights scoreless. Hope previously blanked Defiance (Ohio) in 2016, Bethany (W.V.) in 2017 and Concordia-Chicago this season.

The Flying Dutchmen extended their school-record win streak to 11 matches while improving to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Hope also set a school record for most wins in a season - surpassing last season's 10.

The Flying Dutchmen put 38 shots on goal to seven for Calvin (3-10, 0-3 MIAA). Schanhals, pictured, made seven saves in 53 minutes of play before Reynolds took over in goal.

Hope entered the match tied for seventh in the nation in scoring defense at 6.0 goals allowed per match.

Two Hope players shared team-high honors with three goals apiece: sophomores Max Kuiper of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central) and Rocco Mularoni of Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central).

Mularoni, who also recorded two assists, now has a career-high 46 goals on the season and 90 in his career. He needs four more goals to become the second from the Flying Dutchmen to reach 50 in a single season.

Sophomores Gino Battaglia of Dayton, Ohio (Lebanon) and Scott Brooks of Hilliard, Ohio (Davidson) chipped in two goals apiece for Hope.
