Cameron Dice and the Hope men's soccer team erupted for four unanswered goals to defeat Trine 4-1 on Saturday night in front of a Van Andel Soccer Stadium crowd of 584.
Coach Steven Smith's No. 24-ranked Flying Dutchmen improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play.
Dice, a junior from Allendale (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), scored his second goal of the season in the 14th minute. Junior Gavin Midlam of East Lansing (East Lansing) had the assist.
Dice scored after Trine's Kenny Rappuhn put home a rebound off his penalty kick in the 11th minute for a 1-0 Thunder lead.
Senior Grant Neil of Holland (West Ottawa HS) gave Hope the lead for good by scoring in the 38th minute off an assist from junior Logan Sikkenga of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS). It was Neil's second goal of the season.
In the second half, Hope tacked on the fifth goal of the season for senior Jason Muller of Petoskey (Petoskey HS) and the first goal for freshman Josh Hagene of Caledonia (East Kentwood HS). Both were unassisted.
Hope goalie Ethan Beswick of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) made three saves for Hope.
