Men's Soccer Downed By Aurora In Bergsma Memorial Opener

Alex Lindsey and Sam Mason scored their first goals of the season for the Hope College men's soccer team in a 4-2 loss to Aurora, Illinois on Friday in the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament.

The Flying Dutchmen will complete the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10 with a 7 p.m. match against Benedictine, Illinois at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. Benedictine lost at Calvin 1-0 on Friday.

Hope rallied to within one goal twice during the second half, but Aurora answered each time.

Mason, a sophomore from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS), scored in the 71st minute to trim Aurora's lead to 2-1. Lindsey, a senior from East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing) had the assist.

Aurora struck back three minutes later, but Lindsey cut the lead again to one goal in the 81st minute with an unassisted goal for Hope (1-2). Three minutes later, Aurora (2-1) scored its final goal. | PO Box 9000, Holland, Michigan 49422
