A first-half outburst powered the Hope College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win against Trine on Wednesday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen struck for three goals in the first 22 minutes en route to their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association win.
Junior David White of Vernon Hills, Illinois (Vernon Hills HS) opened the scoring 1 ½ minutes into the match. He headed in a corner kick from sophomore James Reymann of Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne) for his second goal of the season.
Senior Alex Lindsey of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing) then delivered the next two goals.
The first one came off a free kick from about 22 yards out 14:39 into the first half.
Lindsey, pictured, then ripped in his third goal of the season 7 ½ minutes later off a penalty kick.
The offensive support was more than enough against Trine (0-6-2, 0-3 MIAA). Freshman goalie Blair McCormick of Wadsworth, Illinois (Warren Township) posted his first collegiate shutout with four saves.
Hope improved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in MIAA play.
The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a noon match at Adrian.
