Flying Dutchmen Open Season At Non-Scoring MIAA Relays

 

The Hope men's swimming & diving team started the 2013-14 season at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Relays Saturday at Calvin College.

Hope placed second in the 200-yard backstroke relay with freshman Danny Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio, (Upper Arlington HS, senior Drew Krumm of Brighton (Brighton HS), freshman Christian Otteman of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS) and junior Chris Waechter of Ventura, Calif., (Foothill Technology HS), posting a time of 1:45.42.

The Flying Dutchmen were runner-up in the 500 freestyle progressive relay. Sophomore Trevor Billinghurst of Spring Lake (Spring Lake HS), sophomore Micah Sall of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS), sophomore Sam Gallmeyer of Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids HS) and sophomore Nathaniel Rommel of Overland Park, Kan., (Blue Valley NW HS), went 4:35.35.

Hope took third in the 200 breaststroke relay with freshman Jon Maat of Holland (Holland HS), sophomore Jeff Zita of Holland (Holland Christian HS), freshman Trevor Wagoner of Hixson, Texas, (McCalle HS), and senior Alexander Perkins of Brighton (Howell HS), going 1:55.49.

The Flying Dutchmen came in third in the 200 butterfly relay as junior William Greenlee of Northville (Northville HS), Rommel, junior Erick Skaff of Flint (Carman-Ainsworth HS) and senior Jake Hunt of Muskegon (Mona Shores HS) posted a time of 1:38.26.

Hope placed third in the 100 breaststroke relay. Perkins, Otteman, Wagoner and Zita went 52.34.

The Flying Dutchmen took third in the 100 freestyle relay as Greenlee, Maat, Hunt and senior Andrew Larson of Jackson (Jackson HS) finished in a time of 39.87.

The Flying Dutchmen came in third in the 400 individual medley. Zita, Waechter, Perkins and Maat went 3:53.93.
