Men's Swimming & Diving Wins 10 Events, Sinks Olivet

The Hope College men's swimming & diving team remained unbeaten in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets with a 137-93 win at Olivet on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen (2-0 overall) recorded the top performances in 10 events.

Junior Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS), pictured, won both the 50-yard freestyle in 22.75 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:10.20.

Senior Jean Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (American) swept diving with winning scores of 276.20 on the 1-meter board and 309.85 points on 3-meter.

Sophomore Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Home School) swam to a first-place time in the 200 individual medley at 2:06.59.

Senior Danny Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington) clocked the top time in the 100 freestyle at 50.85.

Senior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International) went 54.46 in the 100 butterfly for first place.

Senior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.87.

Junior Brian Brown of Lemont, Illinois (Brother Rice) posted the top men's time in the 1,650 freestyle at 18:30.01

The Flying Dutchmen came in first in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Ethan Yau of Chicago, Illinois (College Prep), junior Joseph Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central), Johnson and Otteman went 1:46.61.

Hope returns to the pool on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19 at the University of Chicago.
