Four Hope College divers finished in the top 10 of 1-meter diving at the 12-team University of Chicago invitational this weekend.
Senior Jean Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (American HS) led the group with a third-place total of 427.80 points.
He was followed by sophomore Brian Simonich of Highland, Michigan (Milford) in fifth with 406.35 points, junior Kevin Franz of Mundelein, Illinois (Mundelein) in eighth with 369.0 points and Kyle Weck of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall) in ninth with 319.80 points.
The Flying Dutchmen finished seventh in the team standings with 150 points. The event featured NCAA Division I, II and III competitors.
Sophomore Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Home School) took 13th in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17 minutes, 34:24.
Hope placed 13th in the 800 freestyle relay. Junior Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic), senior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International), freshman Daniel Clyde of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Huron) and senior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (East) went 7:79.76.
The Flying Dutchmen were 14th in the 400 medley relay. Otteman, senior Trevor Wagoner of Hixson, Tennessee (McCalle), Emmert and Johnson had a swim of 3:42.43.
Hope's next meet is Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3 at the Wheaton Invitational.
