Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Fifth At Wheaton Invitational

Two Hope College swimmers qualified for championship races at the two-day Wheaton, Illinois Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Mike Wurster of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit) placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke by clocking a time of 52.61 seconds.

Senior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International) finished sixth in the 50 freestyle with a swim of 21.30.

Hope placed eighth in the 400 freestyle relay. Junior Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic), senior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (East), Johnson and Wurster went 3:12.29.

The Flying Dutchmen finished fifth with 312 points. They trailed Washington-St. Louis (953), Wisconsin-Stevens Point (817), Wheaton (649) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (582).

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 7 at Calvin.
