Men's Swimming & Diving Takes First In Eight Events In Dual Meet Loss To Albion

The Hope College men's swimming & diving team took first in eight events during a 166-131 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leader Albion on Saturday at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

Senior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International Academy) posted the top performances in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.99 seconds and the 100 freestyle at 48.62.

Junior Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) recorded the fastest times in the 100 freestyle in 52.81 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 1:56.60.

Sophomore Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Home School) won the 500 freestyle in 5:02.62  and the 1,650 freestyle in 17:36.99.

Emmert, Johnson, junior Mike Wurster of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit), and freshman Keon Rick of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.56.

Senior Jean Luc Miralda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras (American) swept 1- and 3-meter diving with scores of 273.15 and 308.75 points, respectively.

Wurster finished second in the 100 backstroke at 55.34 and the 200 backstroke at 1:59.70.

Junior Brian Brown of Lemont, Illinois (Brother Rice) was runner-up in the 1,650 freestyle at 17:51.98.

Freshman Daniel Clyde of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Huron) came in second in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.94.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 28 against visiting Alma at Kresge Natatorium.
