Hope College's Charlie Emmert swam to three first-place performances during a 152-123 dual meet loss at Albion College on Saturday in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet of the season.
The senior from Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS) swept the butterfly events and led off the victorious 400-freestyle relay for the Flying Dutchmen.
Emmert, pictured, won the 100 butterfly in 54.11 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 2:00.90. He also finished runner-up in the 100 freestyle at 50.19.
The 400 freestyle relay of Emmert, senior Mike Wurster of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall), senior Joseph Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central), and Daniel Clyde of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Huron) recorded a winning time of 3:24.4.7.
Senior Kevin Franz of Mundelein, Illinois (Mundelein) took first in 3-meter diving with a score of 256.60 points.
Clyde clocked the fastest time in the 200 individual medley at 2:03.54. Junior Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Home School) was runner-up at 2:09.54.
Clyde came in second in the 200 freestyle at 1:51.30.
Wurster was runner-up in the 200 backstroke at 2:02.59.
Freshman Timothy Boyce of Rochester, Minnesota (Lourdes) finished second in the 200 breaststroke at 2:40.03.
Engle was runner-up in the 500 freestyle at 5:11.56.
