Men's Track & Field Runner-Up In 800 Meters, Third In Discus At Emory Invitational

Runner Nicholas Salomon and thrower Jake Babb both recorded top-three finishes for the Hope College outdoor men's track & field team at the Emory Invitational on Saturday in Atlanta.

They helped the Flying Dutchmen place sixth out of 33 scoring teams with 50 points. Rowan won with 132 points.

Salomon finished runner-up in the 800 meters. The senior from Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit) clocked a time of 1 minute, 54.81 seconds. Lee's Harold Smith was first at 1:52.70.

Babb took third in the discus with a toss of 43.69 meters (143 feet, 4 inches). He placed behind Rowan's Glenn Kohles (50.38 meters) and Indiana Wesleyan's Brennan Coil (48.28).

Hope posted a seventh-place 4x400 relay. Senior Brandon Wolliston of Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills), Salomon, sophomore Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) and freshman Brenden Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River) had a time of 3:23.80.

Pole vaulter Ben Turner placed eighth. The sophomore from Albion, Michigan (Olivet) cleared 3.97 meters (13-0).

Babb came in 9th in the shot put at 13.08 meters (42-10). Tyler Webb was 10th at 12.82 meters (42-0).

Senior Brandon Wolliston of Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills) came in 10th in the meters (49.74).

Gibbons was 12th in the triple jump. The sophomore from Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) went 12.79 meters (42-11).

Hope's next competition is Friday-Saturday, March 24-25, back in Atlanta at the Emory Classic.
