Men's Track & Field Claims Top Seeds In Two Events At MIAA Field Day

Cameron Jones and Ben Seppa of the Hope College men's track & field team both claimed top seeds in the running events during Thursday's opening day of the 126th Michigan Field Day at Calvin College.

Jones is first in the 800 meters for Friday's finals. The senior from Holland, Michigan (Black River HS) posted a qualifying run of 1 minute, 57.33 seconds.

Teammate Nick Salomon is seeded second. The senior from Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit) had a preliminary run of 1:58.29. Junior Peter Timperman of Lafeyette, Indiana (Faith Christian) also made the final with a seventh-place time of 1:59.26.

Seppa leads the championship field for the 200 meters. The senior from Jackson, Michigan (Jackson) finished with a time of 21.76. Freshman Adam Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic) was sixth at 22.40.

Seppa and Howard also advanced to the 100-meter final. Seppa took third in preliminaries with a run of 11.02 seconds. Howard was fifth at 11.17.

Hope also qualified three runners apiece for the 400-meter and 400-meter hurdle finals.

Junior Brandon Wolliston of Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills) came in third in 400-meter preliminaries by clocking a time of 50.38 seconds. He is joined by freshman Joshua Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor) in seventh at 50.91 seconds and freshman Jordan Corstange of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian) in eighth at 51.10.

In the 400 hurdles, junior Benjamin Pederson of Mount Prospect, Illinois (Mount Prospect) took fourth in preliminaries with a time of 58.08.

Senior Richard Medina of Bensenville, Illinois (Timothy Christian) placed seventh at 1:00.55. Junior Mitchell DePree of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) was eighth at 1:00.67.

Hope is in fifth place after the first day with 15 points.

Freshman Jake Babb of Caledonia, Michigan (Caledonia) finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 13.36 meters (43-9).

Izenbart came in fifth in the javelin with a toss of 42.21 meters (138-6). Freshman Jager Hann of McBain, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian) was seventh at 39.73 meters (130-4).

Senior David Lunderberg of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) placed fifth in the pole vault by clearing 4.10 meters (13-5 ½).

Sophomore Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) was eighth in the long jump at 6.06 meters (19-9).
