Softball Drops Pair Of Games At Aurora

Two late Aurora, Illinois rallies keyed 2-1 and 6-1 losses for the visiting Hope College softball team on Tuesday.

Aurora (9-5 overall) scored twice in its last at-bat in the seventh inning in Game 1 for a walk off victory, then four times in the bottom of the sixth to secure the nonleague sweep.

Hope (9-5) returns to action on Wednesday, March 29 with the home opener against Franklin, Indiana. First pitch for the nonleague doubleheader is 3:30 p.m.

In Game 1, shortstop Shay Pinhey of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer HS) delivered a third-inning RBI single for the Flying Dutch that plated rightfielder Amanda Diaz of Round Lake, Illinois (Mundelein).

Aurora, however, spoiled the shutout bid from junior Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (East), with a score-tying homer to lead off the seventh and a walk off squeeze bunt with one out.

In Game 2, Hope struck first again with a first-inning single from catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (GR Christian) that scored centerfielder Sammi Adams of Griffith, Indiana (Griffth).

Aurora tied the score in the bottom half of the inning on a solo homer before adding the go-ahead run in the third and four more in the sixth.
