Junior Montana Leep of Hastings (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) finished tied for eighth place at the season-opening Furniture City Classic Saturday to lead the Hope College women's golf team to a fourth-place finish in Grand Rapids.
Leep carded a 13-over-par 83 at The Mines Golf Course during the five-team, 18-hole event.
The Flying Dutch, in their season opener, also picked up scoring rounds of 90 from freshman Dominique Molinaro of Port Huron (Port Huron Northern HS) for a 12th place tie, of 91 for senior Mary Bradley of Pierson (Tri County HS) and junior Stephanie Stover of Grand Rapids (Grandville Calvin Christian HS) for a 14th-place tie.
Hope had a team score of 355 to trail champion Aquinas College (321), Calvin College (339) and Davenport University (341).
"We've got four girls who have never played a varsity match," Hope coach Greg Stafford said. "My target was to get somewhere near a bogey. We got under it. I'm very happy."
