The Hope College women's lacrosse team battled rival Calvin College to the end before losing 10-9 on Wednesday in the teams' Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener.
The Flying Dutch (2-4 overall) fell despite a match-high four goals from senior midfielder Katie Sabourin of Flint (Powers Catholic HS) at Davenport University.
Sophomore midfielder Caren Lee of Milford (Milford HS) chipped in two goals for Hope, while reigning MIAA Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Molly Greenfield of Georgetown, Texas (Georgetown HS), added one goal and three assists.
The Flying Dutch outscored Calvin 6-4 during the second half and pulled within one goal twice during the final 15 minutes of the match.
Sophomore goalie Racquel Harrouk of Grosse Pointe Woods (Grosse Pointe North HS) made six saves for Hope.
The Flying Dutch return to action on Saturday, April 5, at Albion College.
