Nora Kirk, Hope Women's Soccer Score Late, Stun Kenyon For Win
Forward Nora Kirk's header with 35 seconds remaining in regulation lifted the Hope College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Kenyon (Ohio) College on Saturday.
The Flying Dutch won twice in less than 24 hours to kick off their season.
Kirk, a junior from Maumee, Ohio (Notre Dame Academy), buried a pass off a corner kick from junior defender Maria DeShaw of Holland (West Ottawa) to snap a 1-1 tie. Kirk now has two goals on the season.
Kenyon (0-2) tied the score midway through the second half at 67:48.
The Flying Dutch grabbed a 1-0 lead with 3:11 remaining in the first half on an unassisted goal from freshman midfielder Sarah Fazio of Holland (Holland Christian).
Hope goalies Lauren Kooy of Metamora (Flint Powers HS) and Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central) each played one half. Kooy collected four saves in the first half, while Dickson made four after halftime.
Hope's next match is its home opener at Van Andel Soccer Stadium — Friday, Sept. 6 against Elmhurst (Ill.).
