Hope's Home Tennis Courts Both Nationally Recognized
Hope College has two nationally recognized facilities — outdoor in VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium at Etheridge Tennis Complex that opened in 2012 and indoor at DeWitt Tennis Center that debuted in 1994.
The Vande Poel-Heeringa Stadium Courts gained national recognition from the American Sports Builders Association in 2013. The awards program recognizes excellence in design, construction and renovation in the sports facility industry.
The 12-court, Vande Poel-Heeringa Stadium features includes elevated seating for spectators, is designed for competition, instruction and casual play alike. It was made possible through many generous gifts, including from the families of former Hope doubles partners Earle Vande Poel '35 and George Heeringa '36, for whom the facility is named.
The Professional Tennis Registry selected the DeWitt Tennis Center, which offers six indoor courts, as its National Public Facility of the Year in 2010. The DeWitt Tennis Center was named in honor of the Gary and Joyce DeWitt family.
The Etheridge Tennis Complex recognizes the family of Barb '73 and Ted '72 Etheridge.
