Flying Dutch First In Three Events, Second At Calvin Track & Field Invite

The Hope College women's track & field team finished second at the four-team Calvin College Indoor Invitational on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch scored 151 points. Calvin (190) won, while Aquinas College placed third with 129 points and Alma College was fourth with 93 points.

Hope won the distance medley as sophomore Casey Campbell of Swartz Creek (Swartz Creek HS), sophomore Emma Ropski of Park Ridge, Ill. (Maine Township HS), junior Emily Wrozek of Clarklake (Hanover Horton HS) and senior Sheri McCormack of Holland (West Ottawa HS) teamed for a run of 12 minutes. 27.63 seconds.

Sophomore Julia Stock of Spring Lake (Grand Haven HS) led six scoring Hope runners in the 3,000 meters by clocking a winning time of 11:01.3. Others placing were: sophomore Jessica Gaines of Sterling Heights (Utica Academy) in third at 11:06.3, sophomore Emily Joosse of Chillicothe, Ohio (Zane Trace HS) in fourth at 11:15.3, senior Lindsay Timmerman of Hamilton (Hamilton HS) in sixth at 11:23.1, freshman Mackenzie Govier of China, Mich. (Marine City HS), in seventh at 11:34.1 and sophomore Christin Bothe of Dekalb, Ill. (Dekalb HS), in eighth at 11:37.3.

McCormack, pictured at right, won the 800 meters by posting an effort of 2:21.99. Ropski took fourth at 2:27.66, while freshman Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS), was fifth at 2:28.08.

Campbell came in second in the 1-mile run by clocking an effort of 5:19.58. Wrozek was fifth at 5:24.97.

Senior Catherine White of Barre, Vt. (Spaulding HS), took third in the long jump by leaping 4.89 meters. Sophomore Karina Winkelman of St. Paul, Minn. (Woodbury HS), was eighth at 4.65.

Senior Caitlin Schwark of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS), placed third in the triple jump by going 9.93 meters. Winkelman was fourth at 9.82, while sophomore Marina Milad of Plymouth (Canton HS) took seventh at 9.52.

Senior Lindsay Nichols of Freeland (Freeland HS) came in fourth in the shot put by tossing 10.56 meters.

Senior Amelia Stanley of Grand Rapids (Northview HS) led four Hope pole vaulters scoring by clearing 9 feet for fourth place. She was followed by Kaylee Kish of Bay Village, Ohio (Bay HS), in fifth at 8-6, junior Janelle Kirsch of Harbor Beach (Harbor Beach HS) in sixth at 8-6, and senior Catherine Gammon of Petoskey (Petoskey HS) in seventh at 8-0.

Junior Jordyn Severt of Traverse City (West HS) tied for third in the high jump by clearing 1.50 meters. Freshman Erica Nurenberg of Pewamo (Pewamo-Westphalia HS) tied for seventh at 1.45 meters.

Sophomore Jane Pearson of Lake City (Northern Michigan Christian HS) took third in the 400 meters at 1:02.52. Others to score for Hope were: Schwark in fifth at 1:03.62, sophomore Aurelie McCarus of Lansing (Catholic Central HS) in sixth at 1:03.79 and freshman Sierra Schultz of Kellogg, Iowa (Grinnell Community HS), in seventh at 1:04.78.

Hope was third in the 4 by 400 relay. Pearson, Schwark, junior Katie Afton of Kalamazoo (Portage Central HS) and McCarus went 4:13.10.

Junior Emily Smith of Pueblo, Colo. (Jackson Hole HS), placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles by clocking a time of 9.81. Pearson took fifth in 10.01, while Kirsch was seventh in 10.60.

Hope's 4 by 800 relay of sophomore Amanda Dort of Alpena (Alpena HS), Govier, Gammon and Gaines finished fourth in 10:39.13.
