ACHA Hockey Wins Twice, Captures Sixth Vezina Cup Title

The Hope College American Collegiate Hockey Association team is now 26-3-1 in the season after winning its sixth Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference Vezina Cup Tournament championship this weekend.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen defeated the University of Michigan, 5-3, in the championship game at Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids.

Five different players scored goals for the Flying Dutchmen. Peter Stewart and Max Mones both recorded one goal and one assist against Michigan.

Goalie Austin Kane posted a 33-save game.

On Friday, Hope beat Grand Valley State University, 7-2, in the semifinals.

Allan Hirsch and Brad Baysore led the the Flying Dutchmen with two goals and one assist apiece.

Noah Weigle, Brendan Sanders and Stewart all contributed goals.

Kane stopped 23 shots. Lukas Schut had 14 saves.

Hope competes next in the American Collegiate Hockey Association regional tournament on Friday, March 8 against Saginaw Valley STate University at Suburban East Lansing Ice Arena.

The Flying Dutchmen must win twice this weekend to return to the national tournament. They were national champions last season.
