Tanner Gilmore hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season for the Hope College baseball team in a losing effort on Trine on Friday.
The Flying Dutchmen (17-13 overall) dropped both games of the series opener, falling 22-2 and 10-5.
Trine (16-11) moved into a third-place tie with Hope in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings. Both teams are 10-8 in MIAA play.
Hope hosts the series finale on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. There is a free team poster giveaway at Boeve Stadium.
Gilmore gave the Flying Dutchmen a 2-0 lead in the top half of the second inning with a two-run blast.
Trine, however, rallied for four runs in its half of the inning and never relinquished the lead.
Third baseman Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian) went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI in Game 2. Hope was outhit 15-11.
In Game 1, Trine erupted for 20 runs over the first four innings and finished with 21 hits.
Leftfielder Nick Lepore of Clinton Township, Michigan (Warren De La Salle) had four of the Flying Dutchmen's seven hits.
