The Hope College baseball team was swept by Babson, Massachusetts 7-5 and 5-0 in a doubleheader on Saturday in Auburndale, Florida.
In the first game, third baseman Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS) collected two RBI to lead the Flying Dutchmen.
Carrasco drove in runs with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly and a seventh-inning single.
Pinch-hitter Cal Barrett of Chelsea, Michigan (Chelsea) followed Carrasco in the fifth with an RBI single that cut Babson's lead of 5-4.
Hope yielded two runs in the top of the seventh. The Flying Dutchmen loaded the bases with nobody out in their last at-bat, but were retired in order after Carrasco's single.
Centerfielder Evan Maday of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Kentwood), shortstop Jordon Fairchild of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge), and leftfielder Nick Lepore of Clinton Township, Michigan (Warren DeLaSalle) each had two hits.
In the second game, the Flying Dutchmen (1-4 overall) were shut out on three hits by Babson (6-1).
