Hope College baseball teammates Mason Opple and Max Gaishin have swept Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week honors.

The two combined to help the Flying Dutchmen win five of six league games last week. Opple is the MIAA Position Player of the Week, while Gaishin is the MIAA Pitcher of the Week.

Opple, Hope's starting right fielder, batted .565 last week against Calvin College and Olivet College. The sophomore from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) went 13-for-23 with three doubles and two home runs.

Opple, pictured at left, knocked in 12 and scored eight times. He finished with a .957 slugging percentage on the week, which included a multi-base hit in five of six games.

This is Opple's first MIAA Position Player of the Week honor. He has been named MIAA Football Player of the Week twice in his career.

Gaishin, pictured at right, remained undefeated on the season by firing a complete game during a 14-1 victory at Calvin College on March 26.

The sophomore from Stevensville, Michigan (Stevensville-Lakeshore) allowed four hits and one run.

Gaishin, a left-hander, struck out four and walked three while improving his record to 2-0.

This is Gaishin's first MIAA Pitcher of the Week honor.
