Mason Opple's record-setting performance for the Hope College football team has earned him national accolades.
The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) has been selected as the quarterback on the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Opple rushed for a career-high 244 yards on a career-high 27 carries during Hope's 35-30 homecoming win against Olivet College on Saturday.
Opple ran for more yards than any quarterback in Hope College history — surpassing Joe Schwander's 2005 effort of 209 yards against Alma College.
The 244 rushing yards were the 18th-most gained by any Division III player this season and the fourth most by any Division III quarterback this season.
Opple figured in four of the Flying Dutchmen's five touchdowns with three rushing scores and one passing.
Opple went over the 1,000-yard mark for his career during the Olivet game. He now has 1,143 yards rushing, including a career-high 610 this season.
On Monday, Opple was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week.
