Michael Lapciuk joined the Hope College Football coaching staff prior to the 2016 season as an assistant coach. He is special teams coordinator and works with wide receivers.
Lapciuk (pronounced Lap-Chick) is a professional educator in the Grandville Public School District. Coach L., as his players call him, has been coaching football at various levels since 1996.
Coach L. was the head varsity football coach at Grandville from 2011-13. He also has been an assistant coach at Grandville, Grand Rapids Christian, Jenison and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern. Lapciuk coached current Hope offensive coordinator and former Michigan State University standout Andrew Hawken in middle school. Lapciuk also had Hawken on his coaching staff at Grandville.
Lapciuk also has professional coaching experience. He spent five seasons in youth development, football operations and as an assistant coach for the Arena Football League with the Grand Rapids Rampage.
A college athlete himself, Coach L. played baseball for Aquinas before graduating in 1993 with a degree in health education. Lapciuk went on to earn a master’s degree in educational leadership from Michigan State University.
Coach L. and his wife, Lisa, reside in Grand Rapids.
