The Hope College men's basketball team is playing in the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic for the 22nd time this weekend at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.
The Flying Dutchmen are seeking their sixth Classic title, joining previous winners from 2011, 2006, 2005, 2002 and 1997.
Hope (1-1 overall) will face Cornerstone University (6-2) on Friday at 6 p.m. and Aquinas College (3-5) Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Flying Dutchmen are 22-18 all-time in the Grand Rapids Sports of Hall Fame Classic, including a 9-5 mark against Aquinas and a 9-8 record against Cornerstone. Hope went 2-0 against Calvin and 2-3 against Grand Valley State University.
The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division II, ride in on a six-game win streak led by two Holland natives: senior forward Kyle Steigenga (21.5 points per game) and junior center Sam Vander Sluis (16.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game).
The Saints are coming off an 87-58 league win at Lawrence Tech on Tuesday. Junior forward Frank DeVos tops the Saints at 9.1 points per game.
