Hope College's Jason Beckman has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The junior guard from Shelby, Michigan (Shelby HS) helped the Flying Dutchmen win last weekend's MIAA Tournament and qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament by averaging during two wins 29.0 points and 6.5 assists per game.
Beckman, one the nation's leading foul shooters, set an MIAA Tournament record with 19 made throws during Saturday's 106-94 win at Olivet College in the championship game. He finished with 32 points, including 21 in the second half.
Beckman also dished out six assists to key the Flying Dutchmen's run to a 12th MIAA Tournament title. Their 106 points is the most in an MIAA Tournament championship game.
During Friday's semifinal 81-65 win against Adrian, Beckman totaled 26 points, a career-high seven assists, and four rebounds. He did not commit a turnover in 36 minutes of play.
This is the fourth time this season and the fifth time in his career Beckman has received MIAA Player of Week honors.
