Damon Jones joined the Hope College men’s basketball coaching staff in August 2018. He is the head junior varsity coach.
In 2019, Jones began working as an event and conference manager in the Hope College Events & Conference Office (ECO). His responsibilities included developing and coordinating events, conferences and camps at Hope College. He deals with athletic events and/or the athletic fields. He also oversees student workers in the audio-visual booth for athletic events, summer housing assistants, and first responders.
Jones enjoyed a decorated career at both the professional and collegiate levels.
Jones played professionally for three years. He was a member of Danish Cup and COPA winners in Denmark and Spain, respectively. He also was the top scorer in his Irish League with 30 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
Jones led NCAA Division II Mercyhurst University (Pennsylvania) to its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title during the 2015-16 seasons. He led the Lakers to their first NCAA tournament appearances as a junior and senior.
Jones played his first two seasons at Mercyhurst North East, a junior college. He was named a JUCO All-American following the 2013-14 season.
Jones finished his playing career at Mercyhurst University and Mercyhurst North East as a 1,000-point scorer in college.
In high school, Jones was the Ohio Division 3 Player of the Year and North Coast League Player of the Year at St. Peter Chanel. He also received first-team all-state and all-district honors before graduating in 2012.
