Men's Golf Cards Top Round To Open Fall MIAA Championship

The Hope College men's golf team inched closer toward league-leading Calvin College with a two-stroke victory on Friday during the opening round of the 36-hole Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.

The Flying Dutchmen shot a team score of 289 at Battle Creek Country Club. Calvin finished two strokes back and holds an eight-stroke lead heading into Saturday's final round.

The cumulative lowest total after 108 holes this fall will be crowned MIAA champion.

Sophomore Daniel Settecerri of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Bloomfield Hills HS) fired the tournament's low round Friday — a 3-under-par 69.

Junior Josh Gibson of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) was one stroke back in a tie for second place. He holds the overall individual lead with 18 holes remaining.

MIAA Standings

Senior Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) and junior Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) both shot 75s to tie for 11th.
