Men's Golf Shoots 1-Under, Charges To Early Lead At Lou Collins Memorial

The ninth-ranked Hope College men's golf team carded a red number in the first round of the 2018-19 season.

The Flying Dutchmen went 1-under-par with a team score of 287 Friday at Olivet College's Lou Collins Memorial at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.

Hope took an 11-shot lead in the 14-team field into Saturday's final day of the 36-hole event.

Senior Josh Gibson of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS) and junior Daniel Settecerri of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Bloomfield Hills), pictured far right, each fired 1-under 71s to top the Flying Dutchmen.

They are tied for second and four strokes off the individual lead belonging to Spring Arbor's Cameron Conley. Gibson, pictured at left, is the reigning NCAA Division III National Player of the Year.

Hope's top five rounds were within two strokes of each other.

Senior Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) is tied for fourth after a 72.

Senior Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) and junior Noah Weigle of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) each chipped in 73s.

Allegheny (Pennsylvania) is second with a 298.
