Men's Lacrosse Scores Three Unanswered Goals, Beats John Carroll

The Hope College men's lacrosse team blitzed John Carroll with three unanswered goals for a 9-7 victory on a chilly afternoon on home turf Thursday.

Sophomore Nathaniel Hentschel of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) and senior Grant Brogan of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing) scored score-tying and go-ahead goals with a 70-second span in the fourth quarter for the Flying Dutchmen.

Sophomore Rocco Mularoni of Hartland, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) then sealed the nonleague win at Van Andel Soccer Stadium by scoring with 17 seconds remaining.

Hope improved to 3-1 overall with its third consecutive victory.

Mularoni equaled his season-high with five goals against John Carroll (2-2). He also assisted on Brogan's go-ahead goal.

Mularoni tops the Flying Dutchmen with 15 goals this season.

Hope rebounded after surrendering a 5-2 halftime lead.

John Carroll pulled ahead by scoring the first four goals of the third quarter. The Flying Dutchmen evened the score at 6-6 when Mularoni scored off an assist from junior Josh Blackburn of Muskegon, Michigan (Reeths-Puffer HS).

John Carroll regained the lead 5:04 into the fourth period, but only for four minutes before Hentschel recorded his first goal of the match.

Junior goalie Nick Schanhals of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) equaled his season-high with 13 saves for the Flying Dutchmen.
