Men's Soccer Defeats Trine On Jared Wondergem's Game-Winner

Jared Wondergem's second-half goal powered the Hope College men's soccer team to a 1-0 Senior Day victory against Trine University on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen remained in contention for a home game in next month's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament after improving to 7-7-2 overall and 6-4-2 in league play.

Fourth-place Hope is three points behind second-place Adrian College and two points behind third-place Kalamazoo College in the MIAA standings. Each league win is worth three points. Kalamazoo is not eligible for the MIAA Tournament this season.

The Flying Dutchmen conclude the regular season next week with road matches at Alma College on Tuesday and Adrian on Saturday.

Junior goalie Blair McCormick of Wadsworth, Illinois (Warren Township HS) made two saves for the shutout.

Wondergem broke a scoreless tie with 27 minutes, 54 seconds remaining in regulation. The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) now has two goals on the season.

Trine (5-5-5 overall) is in fifth place with a 3-5-4 league record.
