The Hope College men's soccer team opens postseason play with an MIAA Tournament semifinal at second-seeded Adrian College Wednesday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
The Flying Dutchmen (7-9-2 overall) are seeded third after finishing the regular season with a 6-6-2 league record. Adrian (10-5-2 overall) went 9-3-2 in MIAA matches.
Today's winner advances to face either top-seeded Calvin College or fourth-seeded Trine Univerity in Saturday's championship match at a site of the highest remaining seed. The MIAA Tournament champion receives the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Hope has qualified for the MIAA Tournament for the sixth time since the event started in 2011. The Flying Dutchmen won the tournament in 2013 and 2011.
Hope is 4-3 all-time in MIAA Tournament matches. The Flying Dutchmen have not faced Adrian in postseason play.
Hope went 0-2 against Adrian this season: a 3-2 overtime defeat at Van Andel Soccer Stadium on October 3 and a 3-1 loss at Adrian on October 28.
Head coach Steven Smith is in his 28th season with the Flying Dutchmen. He has a career record of 372-153-44.
Junior Christian Dault leads Hope College with six goals this season. A team-leading four of his goals came during MIAA matches.
