Diver Wins 3-Meter Event At Season-Opening MIAA Relays

Jean Luc Miralda recorded two of top diving performances during the season-opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays on Friday at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

The senior from Tegucigalpa, Honduras (American HS), pictured, earned the top 3-meter score of 196.15 points and tied for second on 1-meter with a total of 201.40 points during the nonscoring meet.

The Flying Dutchmen took second in the 200 backstroke relay. Senior Danny Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS), junior Mike Wurster of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit), senior Christian Otteman of Zeeland, Michigan (East) and freshman Daniel Clyde of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Huron) clocked a time of 1:43.63.

Hope posted third-place and seventh-place efforts in the 400 medley relay. Sophomore Josh Meade of Kentwood, Michigan (East Kentwood), Wurster, senior Trevor Wagoner of Hixson, Tennessee (McCalle) and Otteman teamed for a third-place time of 4:00.57. Sophomore Trevor Gras of Zeeland, Michigan (East), freshman Ethan Yau of Chicago (Chicago College Prep), junior Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Home School) and junior Joseph Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central) were seventh at 4:16.10.

The Flying Dutchmen placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke relay as Clyde, Meade, Christian Otteman and Wagoner recorded a swim of 1:58.41.

Hope was fourth and seventh in the 500 freestyle relay. Senior Ryan Johnson of Milford, Michigan (International Academy), Watson, junior Charlie Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) and Engle had a fourth-place time of 4:27.67. Yau, freshman Gus Dellacqua, Seth Costello of Bloomington, Indiana (North) and junior Brian Brown of Lamont, Illinois (Brother Rice) took seventh in 4:46.36.

The Flying Dutchmen also were fourth in the 200 butterfly relay. Johnson, freshman Keon Rick of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake), Sullivan and Emmert clocked a swim of 1:39.78.

Hope placed sixth in the 1,500 relay. Freshman Seth Costello of Williamston, Michigan (Williamston), Brown and Engle went 16:19.23.

The Flying Dutchmen came in sixth in the 200 medley relay. Johnson, Rick, Clyde and Emmert had a swim of 1:31.53.

Hope finished eighth in the 200 medley relay. Otteman, Wagoner, Sullivan and Johnson went 1:43.94.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 with its 1 p.m. MIAA opener against Kalamazoo at Kresge Natatorium.
