Three Divers Finish In Top 10 At NCAA Division III Regionals

Three Hope College divers recorded top-10 finishes during the NCAA Division III regional on Saturday at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Senior Sara Plohetski of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon HS), pictured left, placed sixth out of 27 entrants on the 3-meter board.

Sophomore Grant Williams of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids), pictured middle, came in sixth out of 21 divers on the 1-meter board, while senior Brian Simonich of Highland, Michigan (Milford), pictured right, took ninth.

The two-day event determines qualifies for the March 20-23 NCAA Championships. The official field of divers headed to nationals will be announced on Monday.

Plohetski recorded a 3-meter score of 424.75 points.

She finished 10th in 1-meter diving on Friday.

"Sara had the best meet of the year," diving coach Rebecca Garza said. "She set her own personal-best within the first five dives. She gave this weekend her all."

Williams posted a 1-meter total of 440.10 points.

He took ninth in 3-meter diving on Friday.

"Grant did a great job bouncing back from the flu earlier this week," Garza said "He learned the ins and outs of regionals this year."

Simonich had a 1-meter score of 409.95 points.

He was third in 3-meter diving on Friday.

"Brian came in off an amazing day and found his groove," Garza said. "He kept consistency and had a good time through the competition. No better way to sepnd regionals of your senior year."
