Pole Vaulter Ben Turner, Sprinter Justin Freeman Win Events At Huntington Invitational

Justin Freeman sprinted and Ben Turner vaulted to first-place performances for the Hope College men's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the Huntington College (Indiana) Invitational.

Turner, a senior from Albion, Michigan (Olivet HS), pictured left, cleared 4.50 meters in the pole vault (14 feet, 9 inches)

Freeman, a senior from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa), pictured right, clocked a winning 100-meter time of 10.76 seconds.

Freeman also anchored the first-place 4x100 relay that posted a run of 43.54 seconds. He teamed with junior Korey Derr of Grand Rapids, MIchigan (Northview), sophomore David Clark of Sterling Heights, Michigan (Stevenson) and junior Adam Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic).

The Flying Dutchmen finishe with a third-place score of 151 points. Huntington (187) won, while Grace College (Indiana) was runner-up with 172 points.

Hope took second in seven events.

Junior Josh Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor) recorded runner-up performances in the 110 hurdles at 15.93 seconds, the javelin at 46.85 meters (153-8) and the high jump at 1.89 meters (6-2 ¼).

Senior Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) placed second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.68 seconds and the triple jump with a leap of 12.65 meters (41-6).

Senior Chase Gaca of Kingsley, Michigan (Kingsley) posted a runner-up discus toss of 41.36 meters (135-8).

Sophomore Barry Bait of Granville, Ohio (Granville) was runner-up in the pole vault at 4.10 meters (13-5 ¼).

Hope's next meet is Friday-Saturday, April 19-20 at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic.
