Hope College's Justin Freeman led the way for the Flying Dutchmen this weekend at Grand Valley State University's Al Owens Classic, where the senior from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) placed second out of 32 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.72.
Freeman also anchored Hope's 4x100 meter relay team, which also placed second. Freeman was joined in the relay by teammates Korey Derr of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Northview), David Clark of Sterling Heights, Michigan (Adlai E. Stevenson), and Adam Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic).
Sophomore Ethan Larson of Glen Ellyn, Illinois (Glenbard West) clinched third in the high jump with a jump of 1.90 meters.
Hope's 4x400 meter relay team of Drew Dow of Bridgman, Michigan (Bridgman), Owen Ljung of Sonoma, California (Sonoma Valley), Brenden Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River), and Collin Thomas of Novi, Michigan (Novi) placed fourth overall and clocked a time of 3:24.97.
Ljung also took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.59, while teammate Thomas strode to a seventh-place finish in 400-meter dash with a time of 50.45.
Benjamin Turner of Albion, Michigan (Olivet) took eighth overall in the pole vault with a vault of 4.35 m.
Derr also raced in the 100-meter dash, running to a ninth-place finish with a time of 11.10.
The Flying Dutchmen are in action next on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 at the Calvin Invitational. Start times both days is 1 p.m.
