First-place performances in three events boosted the Hope College men's indoor track and field team to a runner-up finish at Aquinas College on Friday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Flying Dutchmen totaled 170 points during the eight-team meet. Aquinas won with 219 points.
Senior Adam Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic HS) took first in the 200 meters by clocking a run of 23.97 seconds. Senior Korey Derr of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Northview) was runner-up at 24.16. Hope posted the fastest seven times in the event.
Senior Josh Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor) recorded a winning run in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 8.49 seconds. He passed Nick Rinck's 2011 mark of 8.56.
Hope's 4x400 relay of freshman Nathaniel Woolum of Mattawan, Michigan (Mattawan), sophomore Drew Dow of Bridgman, Michigan (Bridgman), sophomore David McHugh of Whitehall, Michigan (Muskegon Reeths-Puffer) and senior Ty Hergenreder of Davison, Michigan (Goodrich) posted a first-place effort of 3:32.80.
Dow came in second in the 400 meters. He had a time of 52.78 seconds.
Derr finished runner-up in the 60-meter run after running 7.09 seconds.
Junior Zackary Murphy of Coldwater, Michigan (Coldwater) recorded a second-place time in the 800 meters of 2:05.11.
Senior Jager Haan of McBain, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian) went 6.28 meters in the long jump for second place.
Izenbart placed runner-up in the high jump by clearing 1.89 meters. He was one of three Hope high jumpers in the top four.
Hope's next meet is Friday, February 14 at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
