The Hope College men's cross country team ran against some of the top teams in NCAA Division III on Saturday during the Pre-National 8K in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
Despite sloppy and challenging course conditions, the Flying Dutchmen ran to a team score of 1,044 points in the 50-team event and finished 39th.
Senior Nathan Schloff of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), pictured, led Hope by finishing at 26 minutes, 41.5 seconds and taking 120th place out of 344 runners.
Sophomore Brett Slayton of Holland, Michigan (Hamilton) finished second for Hope, clocking in at 27:34.6 and placing 215th.
Freshman Nick Hoffman of Holland, Michigan (Holland) came in 225th with a time of 27:39.1.
Sophomore Zackary Murphy of Coldwater, Michigan (Coldwater) ran a race of 27:45, placing 233rd.
Sophomore Drew Schmitz of Westfield, Indiana (Westfield) finished with a time of 28:04.9 for 261st place.
Freshman Evan Bleitz of Saline, Michigan (Saline) crossing the finish line in 285th place at 28:26.8.
Senior Nicholai Shaw of Allendale, Michigan (Allendale) clocked a run of 28:36.3 for 290th place.
In the men's Open 8K, sophomore Jacob VanderRoest of South Haven, Michigan (Saugatuck HS) took first for Hope. He was 118th overall with a time of 28:23.7.
Junior Ty Hergenreder of Davison, Michigan (Goodrich) crossed the finish line in 28:41.1 for 141st place.
Senior Ryan Holman of Holmen, Wisconsin (Holmen) took 161st place with a run of 28:50.9.
Junior Joey Dawson of Richland, Michigan (Gull Lake) ran a race of 29:11.2 for 199th place.
Freshman Jonathan Outen of Hackensack, New Jersey (Hackensack HS) clocked in at 29:12.9 taking 202nd place.
