The Hope College men's cross country is aiming for a Top 10 finish during Saturday's NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional in Shelbyville, Indiana.
The Flying Dutchmen are running on Saturday at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Indiana. The men's 8K race begins at 12:15 p.m.
Hope will look to move up in a region that includes three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association teams in the Top 10 of the rankings: Calvin College (No. 1), Albion College (No. 6), and Trine University (No. 8).
Five Hope runners finished with six places and 30 seconds of each other at the conference meet: senior Nathan Schloff of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), freshman Nick Hoffman of Holland, Michigan (Holland), sophomore Brett Slayton of Holland, Michigan (Hamilton), and Sophomore Zackary Murphy of Coldwater, Michigan (Coldwater), and sophomore Drew Schmitz of Westfield, Indiana (Westfield).

"We're going to be running men who have never run in a meet like this," head coach Mark Northuis said. "They've run at pre-nationals and at Louisville, but this is a little different. I think this group of guys can handle it well. Being able to move up our pack will be key."
Northuis describes the race course as pool-table flat.
"It's a lot like our course at West Ottawa Golf Course. There is nothing that really gets in the way besides the elements," Northuis said.
