Softball Overpowers Lake Forest, Carleton For Victories

Leadoff batter Shay Pinhey totaled five hits, four runs scored and two RBI as the Hope College softball team defeated Lake Forest 7-1 and Carleton, Minnesota 12-2 in five innings on Saturday in Clermont, Florida.

The first baseman from Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer HS) was part of a Flying Dutch lineup that combined for 22 hits during the two games.

Hope improved to 4-2 on the season.

Against Lake Forest, Pinhey, pictured, went 3-for-3 and scored on a first-inning RBI single from designated player Katie Singer of Howell, Michigan (Hartland) and a fourth-inning triple from centerfielder Noelle Jackson of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Grand Blanc).

Shortstop Savannah Dixon of Niles, Michigan (Edwardsburg) also delivered a run-scoring triple for the Flying Dutch.

Second baseman Sierra Mutschler of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland) had a two-run double.

Winning pitcher Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (South) scattered eight hits over seven innings. She struck out seven and walked three.

Against Carleton, Pinhey opened the scoring with a two-run double in the second. She scored in the inning on a single by catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian).

Pinhey added a triple en route to a 2-for-4 effort.

Reitsma went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Singer and leftfielder Jo Cook of Birch Run, Michigan (Birch Run) each finished with two hits.
