Katie Singer belted two home runs for the 23rd-ranked Hope College softball team in an 8-0 win against visiting Manchester (Indiana) on Thursday at Wolters Stadium.
The Flying Dutch (14-3 overall) dropped the second game 5-2 to end their win streak at 12 games.
Singer, a senior from Howell, Michigan (Hartland HS), became the first Hope player since the 2015 season to homer twice in a game. Current teammate Sierra Mutschler and former teammate Peyton Wells accomplished the feat against Chicago and Trine, respectively.
Singer, pictured, blasted a three-run homer in the first for a 4-0 lead. She added a two-run homer in the fifth and finished with a career-high five RBI.
They were the first two home runs of Singer's career.
Catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian) added a solo homer and an RBI double.
Winning pitcher Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (East) struck out seven in her fourth shutout of the season. Manchester left nine on base and totaling six hits and four walks against Jones (7-1).
In Game 2, Hope took a 2-1 lead in the second inning after a run-scoring triple from leftfielder Jo Cook of Birch Run, Michigan (Birch Run) and a sacrifice fly from shortstop Savannah Dixon of Niles, Michigan (Edwardsburg).
Manchester (8-10) answered with one run in the third and three in the fourth off Singer (6-2).
